Make a great game
better!
WHY PPickleball?
PPickleball includes several new rules and a name change to make the game more competitive. In addition it will increase strategy, improve both the viewership experience and player action dynamics on the court.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
PPickleball will maintain all of the current
USA Pickleball established rules and fundamentals WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FOLLOWING UPDATES:
- The head of the paddle must not be above the entire wrist. The current rule states “The head of the paddle must not be above highest part of the wrist during a serve” Who wants to be the person contesting serves in a match? Far too often what has developed over time is “sidewinding” or hitting the serve from a wind up side swing. Who is standing there with a high speed camera to determine the “highest part of the wrist” during a serve? In PPickleball it is a very simple visual and helps manage serves to create a better match.
- KITCHEN…The term “kitchen” is slang for the non-volley zone (NVZ). Who does not want to be in the kitchen. It is where food, nourishment and all good things originate. Have you ever been to a house party? Everyone migrates to the kitchen. New players learning the game are told to stay out of the kitchen. Huh? We change the name in PPickleball to the “PIT”. The only time you can enter the PIT and make contact is to rescue the pickleball. Now it makes sense…Stay out of the PIT!
- Maximum of four dinks in the PIT. Apparently volley means as the ball is in the air. There are no limits to this rule. Dink, dink, dink, dink, dink, dink is BORING. Boring to watch and boring to play. Many times one player is dominating the returns. Use the court. After the 4th volley get back to covering the court and creating a more challenging and strategic end to the match. USA Pickleball defines a “Volley” as a ball hit in the air before it bounces onto the court during a rally” and a “Dink as a.soft shot hit on a bounce from the NVZ”
WHAT PLAYERS SAY?
The Pit! I love it. Who came up with the Kitchen? Makes no sense! Greg A, Tx
The side serve is out of hand. A total wrist serving rule makes logical sense. Much better option in comparison to a drop serve mandate. Robert M., AZ
Endless dinking finally comes to an end! With the new rule we ad some challenge and strategy back in to the match. Thomas G, OH
